Parashat Noah concludes with the story of the Tower of Babel, when God divides humanity’s speech so that there is no longer a single language all of humanity shares. This episode is typically described as a fable-like story the ancient Israelites may have relied on to explain why human societies were fractured by language and culture. However, if we dig deeper, we discover a story about the power and importance of speech.
